Friend of a Friend, Episode 6: John Kameel Farah, creative composer/pianist/artist

... on defining oneself and one's music, unwieldy burgers, and the role of an artist in times of crisis.

John Farah is a pianist, a composer and a visual artist – and probably more!
He’s a warm, enthusiastic guy, and extremely talented. He’s Canadian with Arabic / Palestinian roots and he’s based in Berlin. John earns a living there as a pianist and composer, no mean feat anywhere, really. But luckily he makes regular trips home to Canada to do solo shows.

If you go to one of John’s concerts, you never know exactly what you will hear. There will be improvisation --  but he’ll possibly incorporate aspects of middle-eastern music, baroque and early music,  contemporary classical, and some electronic elements, too.

If you’re in the Toronto area you can hear it for yourself soon:
Tuesday May 7, Redwood Theatre 1300 Gerrard St.East, Toronto, On. M4L 1Y7
For info: info@theredwoodtheatre.com or john@johnfarah.com

John’s website is: johnfarah.com and you can buy his music on Bandcamp

For more about the multicultural cross-pollination between Europe and the Middle East during the Middle Ages, I suggest María Rosa Menocal’s book, The Ornament of the World (Thanks for the recommendation, Margaret Gundara!). didnt’ geta chance to mention this but I wanted to!
